Labiaplasty is a procedure to reduce the labia minora, the inner lips of the vagina. Labiaplasty is a delicate procedure that helps improve the size, symmetry and shape of the Labia and Clitoral hood. To be an expert labiaplasty surgeon requires a keen eye and a soft touch, and that’s where our board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon, Dr. Oppenheimer, comes in. As a third-generation plastic surgeon, he prioritizes safety and results. Dr. Oppenheimer’s mission is to empower women with exceptional plastic surgery and genuine kindness.

Who needs Labiaplasty?

Anyone who is bothered by the size, shape, and appearance of their labia can have labiaplasty surgery. Candidates also include women who experience discomfort in their genitalia with exercise or intercourse.

Normal growth of the labia minora happens around puberty, but for some women, this growth is excessive. Other women have changes after pregnancy and childbirth that can adversely affect the appearance of the labia, causing a rough or dark edge appearance. Weight loss and menopause are additional life events that can contribute to elongation of the labia minora as well.

Are there any changes in sensation after Labiaplasty?

Dr. Oppenheimer has no patients who have reported sensation changes after labiaplasty surgery. None of Dr. Oppenheimer’s patients have had issues with orgasm or had numbness in their vagina after this procedure.

How long is the labiaplasty recovery?

The first part of the recovery process involves 3 days of rest, off your feet, at home. The second phase, until all swelling is completely resolved, takes about 3 weeks.  Exercise can resume at this time, after 21 days, while sexual intercourse is safe 6 weeks after labiaplasty surgery.

Is Anesthesia required for Labiaplasty? Does the Procedure Hurt?

Labiaplasty usually gets done with local anesthesia, which means the patients are awake for the surgery with just a numbing injection. These patients often will drive themselves to and from the surgery center. For women that are more anxious about the procedure, twilight anesthesia is an option. This is where you have an IV and drift off to sleep for the procedure. In either case, once the numbing medicine is in (which takes about a minute or 2), the entire procedure is pain free. The entire procedure takes about an hour.

What is the Cost of Labiaplasty?

The total cost of the procedure depends on certain factors, but most commonly it is the experience of the surgeon and the quality of the results that are the greatest such as the expenses incurred. A revision surgery from a poorly done (or botched) labiaplasty is not only more expensive, but quite sad for everyone involved. All of our prices are published online so please feel free to learn more here.

Dr. Oppenheimer’s vision is to normalize plastic surgery through transparency and trust. We thank you for trusting us to get your labiaplasty journey underway and we promise to treat you with respect, dignity and most of all, kindness.
